Making a List, Checking It Twice

I will freely admit, my wife Trina and I are list-aholics. It seems like each of us has a list for just about everything. There is a Christmas list that we follow religiously. There is the inescapable honey-do list that Trina has for me each baseball off-season. There is even a list for us to get paper and pens to make more lists.

There is not one aspect of our lives that there doesn’t seem to be a list somewhere. The problem is, we make these lists then for one reason or another the list gets misplaced. I think the lost lists are just a coincidence but Trina believes in some list conspiracy theory.

I Go Where I’m Towed

Perhaps one of the saddest things in the world is the helplessness you feel while when your car doesn’t start. I pride myself in being a handy guy. If there are things that need to be done around the house such as electrical, plumbing, etc. I want to be able to fix them.

Same goes with other things in my life as well. If my motorcycle breaks down I’ll dig around until I find an answer and try to fix it myself. Some of this is monetary as I try to save myself a few dollars but in most cases I just love to learn.

Nikon Learn & Explore

I’ve been a Nikon fan for several years. The cameras are always first rate and they have some of the best lenses in the business. But it is more than just hardware that keeps me coming back to this manufacturer.

Nikon has continuously been developing their software and web presence to add value to their product line. This coupled with their Nikon Schools educational arm provides a wealth of information on just on cameras but on camera techniques.

Lyrics Madness

When the Apple iPod was first released I was one of the early adopters. I could already see this as a new paradigm for delivering and serving music and I wanted to be a part of the revolution. I have literally thousands of CDs that I have bought over the years. Many of these were repurchased from cassette tapes that I had before that. Even some of those were repurchased from 8-Track tapes before that.

I am not unfamiliar with the migration from one format to another. Each time I bought into the argument that the new format was better than the last and I would finally hear the music the way the artist and producer had expected.

Just Plain Sick

As I came home from work last night I wasn’t feeling all that good. Despite a great day at the Diamondbacks Spring Training Ground Breaking Ceremony I just didn’t feel quite right. I skipped dinner and instead decided to lie down.

The next thing I remember was my alarm going off and the clock reading 6:30 AM. Normally I run on around three or four hours of sleep per night but last night I slept for nearly 11 hours. Something was definitely amiss.

PDF Browser Plugin

I am not sure when it happened but I suddenly realized that the entire world seems to have standardized on PDF files as the de-facto standard for delivering documents electronically. It seems like every time I turn around I am receiving another PDF file through email or as a link to a web site.

It first started out as a simple file but recently I have noticed that the PDF files are getting much more advanced and complex. Rather than just flipping through page by page the files I am now receiving have table of contents, password protection, and other features.

Mouse Keys

Do you ever have one of those days where your brain just seems to cramp up and you could swear your skull had a Charlie horse? Yeah today is one of those days for me. Normally I am pretty coherent and try not to do things that are too stupid.

My wife of course would argue that point and could probably come up with a list of the idiotic things I have done that would stretch for miles. Despite all of her irrefutable evidence, I still claim that I am not quite as dumb as I look. After today though I might need to rethink that theory.

Last winter I took on the task to redesign the Foothills Harley Owners Group web site. The previous iteration of the web site had outlived its purpose and a new site was needed to allow the group to find the information they needed quickly while allowing the group’s officers to manage the content easier.

I used Joomla as the content management system to give the site it’s form and structure. The content was categorized and laid out in a way that would make it easy for the Webmaster to manage and maintain.

Friday the Thirteenth

I like to think of myself as an educated man. I graduated from college and even started a few post graduate degrees until I get bored and try something new. I read and try to keep up with current affairs. I enjoy delving into math and science projects and based upon my intelligence test scores was invited to join Mensa.

Why then do I find myself nervously preoccupied with Friday the 13th? This year has been especially bad as there have been three of these. With each one I cringe when I see it on the calendar and want to just stay home under the covers hoping to survive until the calendar rolls over to the 14th.
