Like most people on the planet I am concerned with global warming. I am also concerned about the level of pollution and waste that is accumulating on the planet. Clearly weather changes are afoot and things are different than they have been in the past. I am not yet ready to drink the Kool-Aid that is being served by the environmental groups. I have not been shown a significant amount of scientific data that would lead me to conclude that man is the one responsible for these changes. I am not naive enough to believe may is blameless I just think that there are more factors at play here than the generalizations that have been given by the media. I do think we are too wasteful and do not take into consideration the finite number of resources this planet has. But I also think that we don't know enough about the weather patterns over the course of the life of this planet to know whether we are seeing a change due to man-made problems or if this is a normal occurrence that happens with some sort of regularity through the millions of years this planet has been around.
Whatever the source of the changes it is clear that something is different. This past winter was a prime example. Our daughter Mallorie is going to school in Idaho and on a regular basis she would provide details of the waves of winter storms that would pass through the area. At one point she called to state that she could no longer see out of her window as the snow was now above her first floor apartment. That part of Idaho is known to get snow but in the past it may be 12-18 inches of accumulation. Never was it to the point where it was above the level of car windows. Here in Arizona we noticed it was a much milder winter with substantially less precipitation than we've seen in years past. This of course did not sit well with Mallorie as she was huddled around a space heater we were playing outside while wearing shorts. We knew that would all change around this time of year as temperatures head north of the century mark while it is a comfortable temperature in Idaho. Today as I arrived at work I noticed that the thermometer read 103 degrees. It's funny that 103 doesn't feel that hot when you compare it to 115 or 120 degrees. I figured I would be hearing from Mallorie so that she could gloat. I was right, I did hear from Mallorie, it just was not the message I was expecting. She sent me a text message that said, "Dad, it's snowing and it's June!" Well I always said it was going to be a cold day when Mallorie got into college; I just didn't expect moisture to accompany the temperature.
